Cause of Death: Killed in Action or Died of Wounds. Some conjecture as some records indicate that he was reported missing and taken as a prisoner by the German Army. An Australian soldier reported him as badly wounded in the body before he was unaccounted for. The German Death List records that his identity disc was recovered by the Germans from a body fallen at Bullecourt. The disc was ultimately returned to his mother
